WHAT'S NEW FOR THE 2011 EXPEDITIONS
|
|
We have introduced two wildlife conservation projects
AND
scuba diving
AND
expeditions to the gray whale birthing lagoon of San Ignacio.
It's a big year for change!

Sea Turtle Monitoring Program

|
|
We have incorporated a Sea Turtle Monitoring Program
into the "Young Naturalist Expeditions" which will also be
available to some of the "Adventure Travel Cruising"
Expeditions.
We will be assisting Felipe Cuevas and his father Palo, local fishermen
from the fishing village of Isla Pardito, who are responsible for the
program. The monitoring takes place over a 24 hour period with checks
every 4 hours. Not to worry, in between the monitoring periods we will be
hiking, snorkeling and kayaking.

Turtles 1 and Sea
Turtles 2.
Program is based on weather permitting and presence of the animals at the time of the trip.

Whale Shark Research
|
|
We also have the opportunity to participate in whale shark research
during our expeditions which will be made available to groups should they choose
to add this to their expedition.
We will be working with world renowned whale shark scientist Deni Ramirez
Macias. The research will consist of photo ID, gathering data on size,
sex, scars, DNA sample and possibly placing satellite tags. Of course,
weather permitting.
Remember whale shark are filter feeders, void of teeth. They are very safe
to be around just simply intimidating due to their size.
A Quick Note: I still squeal through my snorkel at first
sight of these amazingly huge, docile creatures.
Program
is based on weather permitting and presence of the animals at the time of the trip.

Scuba Diving
|
|
With the MV Narval
fully equipped for diving we are now able to provide scuba diving
expeditions. We will also be designing joint natural history and dive
expeditions for couples and families where members are both divers and non
divers; combining the best of both worlds.
Please Note: This is not
available to the "Young Naturalist Expeditions" program, as an
add on, but can be specially designed as a scuba program for school
groups.

Gray Whale Birthing Lagoon of San Ignacio, Mexico
|
|
There are places on this earth that have left footsteps in time. Times of celebration and prosperity; yet in a
single breath of change, times of greed, disregard and
actions of endangerment (whaling).
The Pacific gray whales have experienced this realm throughout human existence on earth.
The forgiveness of the gray whales has been expressed through the kinship and friendship they teach their young during our
time with them in their birthing lagoons.
For the journey of the whales and humans, it is not about humans watching whales, it is about the whales
watching the humans and, in a moment of capturing our attention, sharing with us a great lesson in wisdom and
knowledge. A knowledge we, as individuals, can only experience from and within ourselves. That moment in
time that changes our lives forever.

With this said, this program is available to both the Young
Naturalist Expeditions and the Adventure Travel With a Purpose
expeditions.
