Daily JournalSpirit River AcademyDay 7 - A Day with the Gray Whales |
| Today was the day we spent with the gray whales in their birthing lagoons
|
![]() At the little fishing town where the lagoon is located we stopped to drop off a few more gifts that we still had ![]() We first encountered a small class size of about 15 kids. But the teacher had gone to tell her colleagues of the gifts we brought for the "school". |
![]() The next thing you know we were overwhelmed by 105 kids. ![]() We were able to give most a little gift or two. ![]() |
![]() Finally we arrive and board the pangas for our well anticipated whale experience |
![]() Our first close up whale sighting ![]() The whale decided to come a little closer... right under the boat |
![]() After checking us out this whale comes closer for a friendly interaction
|
![]() Yet another whale comes in for a touch from friends ![]() Her calf receives a hug and kiss from a human friend |
![]() This older female couldn't seem to get enough physical interaction. She hung with most of us for about an hour and a half going from boat to boat. |
![]() On the way back to the dock we took a side excursion through the mangroves ![]() Meandering our way through the mangroves observing the abundant marine life to include a huge number of birds. ![]() As we head back to La Paz we encounter one of several nesting osprey that live in the area. ![]() On the way we came across this little "barra" and had to stop to take the picture. Moe's Bar from the Simpsons. |
