Hilltop High

Day 2

The Fiesta at anchor.

We spotted a shrimp trawler that had just come
in after a night of fishing. So we headed over to explore.

The shrimp trawler as we approached.

The Captain invited us to board his ship to explore.

There wasn't much shrimp but there was
enough catch to get a good idea of their operation.

A basket of shrimp heads.

Later we visited another shrimp
trawler that sold us a huge bag of shrimps.

Finally, off the boat to explore our first beach.

Staisia, the naturalist, pokes at a dead moray eel.

A lizard attempts to stay still and camouflaged in the sand.

However, we were on to him and he
gave us an opportunity to carefully handle him.

Brennan and and Brandon explore higher up on the beach.

A very cool beach to explore.

As we head out to our evening destination we encounter dolphins.

Bottlenose Dolphins.

Later,  we encountered Common dolphins.

Finally at our evening destination we decide to take a quick dip.

A welcomed activity.

Sunset on a great day.

The Poncho gang.

Chicken Enchiladas for dinner.

SOMEWHERE IN THE SEA OF CORTEZ

We had our first morning onboard the boat. We had a late breakfast and continued to sail. The water was a little rough, and some of us were a bit queasy. So we tucked into a bay, anchored and found a shrimp trawler anchored nearby. We headed over and visited the boat.
After our visit, we reached a fine-looking beach, went ashore in the pangas, and walked along it. There were lots of shells, washed up skeletons, barnacles, snails, and even some live crabs. We went back to the boat for a good hot lunch.
Then we moved on, keeping an eye out for dolphins and whales. Lots of people brought out cards and started up games. After an hour or so we saw a few dolphins, and a little later we saw several large groups, who came and swam with us for a while.
Closer to supper time, some of the group went swimming, although it was a little chilly (and salty!) Then everyone changed and sat down to supper (chicken enchiladas).
After supper, the snorkel gear was handed out and then we were free for the rest of the evening.
