Day 2 - part 2

continued from Day 2 - part 1

For Nicole's birthday lunch we had crab tostados.

As it turns out, two of Nicole's favorite foods are tortillas and crab.
This was just the beginning of an amazing day of spoiling Nicole.

Chocolate birthday cake.

After lunch Marlyna teaches a class on Feng Shui.

Lots of notes, questions and interesting discussions.

An absolutely fascinating lesson.

Unfortunately the group was interrupted by the naturalists
informing them of humpback whales off the bow of the ship.

There were two humpback whales.

You could here the blows and feel the energy, they were that close.

They surfaced often and hung out with us for some time.

They fluked and dove and then reappeared.

This amazing photo was taken by one of the participants, Margaret McGowen.

It may not be used in any form without written permission by Ms. McGowen.

This is rarely experienced.

"During an hour of change, on a spiritual day, in a month

of teaching/learning, in a year of new beginnings, I saw

two humpback whales and then one breached."
Cathy Turner

The splash was huge and amazing. You could feel it.

As the whales disappeared we observed
a helicopter heading towards a very large ship.

To our great surprise it actually landed on the ship. Little did
we know that a couple of days later we would have a closer encounter.

As we anchored at our evening destination we
headed to the beach for a hike. We poked around
in the cactus exploring the flora and fauna.

We found and explored a fisherman's outpost.
The outpost is used seasonally.

And someone was using the outpost.

This just made for a really cool picture.

A group picture of the hikers.

Another beautiful Baja sunset.

The beginning of the end of "like minded
women", it turned to "women gone bad"!

All that was needed were a few whoopee cushions.

Nicole's Amazing Birthday - part 1

It was my birthday and we celebrated with the gift of king crab from our friends at the village. Lunch consisted of seafood soup, fresh crab tostados and to my surprise a chocolate birthday cake.
Our afternoon Feng Shui class was interrupted with shouts of joy. Humpback whales were spotted and were just off the bow  of the ship. They surfaced and we could hear them exhale and inhale. They dove and we could see their tales. They popped their heads out of the water and looked at us. But most amazingly and right in front of the boat, one jumped right out of the water with a tremendous splash. What a gift on my birthday.
Once we arrived at our evening destination we took a sunset hike on the beach.
The evening was spent packing supplies for the Baja Gift Program. (Please see "Baja Gifts Program" page on this journal) A lot of camaraderie was shown when we added a few of our own gifts to the inventory from the McCoy group and also in organizing all of the gifts into gift packs.
Somewhere along the line Margaret brought out several whoopee cushions. This simply ended the night with a considerable amount of laughter, fun and breakdown in behavior... which continued throughout the trip!
From this moment on, I believe everyone of us slept with one eye open. You never knew when and where Stasia and the whoopee cushion appeared.
