Day 1 and 2

Day 1

The group arrives in Calgary, checks in and awaits the call for boarding.

On the plane and ready to go.

The group arrives in Cabo San Lucas, but they're still not done traveling.

2.5 hour drive from Cabo to La Paz, the group
finally arrives. after many grueling hours of travel.

A well deserved "Welcome to the Baja Dinner".
Authentic Mexican cuisine first of many to come.

Day 2

Nick, Tanner and Devin take a very chilly morning dip.

Jala and Megan follow behind.

Glen, Nick and Wyatt actually seemed to enjoy the brisk waters.

After breakfast as we start our day we encounter bottlenose dolphins.

They came right up to the boat for a better view of the students.

It was awesome to watch and hear them communicating.

They were jumping and playing.

Prior to lunch we headed to Lela's Beach for our first snorkeling adventure.

All geared up, in the water and ready to explore life beneath the sea.

Shannon lurks through the water with a keen sense of stealth.

Coral Hawkfish

King Angelfish

... and who's this handsome devil.
That's right it's Glen collecting specimens to show the students.

After lunch we visit the California sea lion habitat - Los Isolotes.

The sea lions are out hanging about gracefully swimming through the water.

An older pup with mom and friends.

A turkey vulture looking for carion to munch on.

A proud male with females and their pups.

The MV Fiesta anchored.

High above, a Blue-footed Boobie soars in the thermoclines.

The one and only distant blow of a whale we observed today.

A few of us that had woken early took a quick dip before breakfast. Jala quickly learned not to jump into the salt water with her mouth open.
After breakfast we set out for snorkeling. We were lucky enough to see lots of fish our first time out. We saw lots of porcupine fish, seastars, and some of us even saw a little octopus until Stasia poked her finger towards it and scared it into inking Lela.
We ventured back to the boat for a delicious lunch. While on our way to go see the sea lions we spotted some dolphins. After staying with them a while we got into the pangas and set off for the sea lions. We traveled around the entire island allowing us to see the different groupings that existed within the community.
After returning to the Fiesta we spotted a whale blow in the distance. Sadly we were unable to find it again, but we did land ourselves within another pod of dolphins.
Following supper we turned on the night light  and observed California half beaks and sardines. We finished off the night with an entertaining game of charades. It was a great first day at sea.
