Day 3 - part 1

The start of a beautiful day.

Heading out to explore a series of rocky islets.

A small colony of California sea lions.

They watch as we cruise around their habitat.

Brown Pelicans look on.

A lone male enjoys the morning sun.

Our next adventure takes us to the fishing village of Isla Pardito.

Ricardo has caught an eel in the net.

However it has one of the fish from the net in it's throat.

Oooooooh sick!!!!!!!!!!

Ricardo's dad, Simon, holds up part of the day's catch.

A good day of fishing.

Now, the task of filleting the fish.

A couple of the women on the
island make handcrafted jewelry for sale.

Here Maria makes hand woven bracelets.

Maureen pays Maria for the jewelry she has selected.

The group poses in front of a string of whale vertebraes.

The leaders pose behind a skull of a Sei whale.

The island in the background as we head back to the boat.

The whale watching gang.

Within an hour of leaving a small pod of Bottlenose
dolphins come alongside the boat to escort us on our journey.

Once again they play in the bow wake of the boat.

Splashing and jumping.

So starting from this morning we got up at 7:00 am for an early morning adventure. We grabbed some breakfast and headed out. The first stop was a rock point with a whole bunch of sea lions. On the boat Lela told us a bunch of cool facts. After taking a ton of pictures, we headed to the fishing village. We saw the residents unloading their catch for the day. While we watched, one of the men took out an eel. Then he cut out it's morning meal, a fish swallowed whole. Lela took us on a tour of the island, which included a whole bunch of neat stuff. But I'll let Jenelle take it from here.

We saw a whole bunch of whale bones and bones from all sorts of different animals. After Lela had taken some pictures and told some stories we went to visit a couple of the fisherman's wives who make hand crafted jewelry. We got some really cool stuff! Then we came back to the boat and had a pancake breakfast.

Today we woke up early around 7:30 am (not extremely early but...) and we went into the pangas and Lela told us of a surprise we were going to! Turns out it was sea lions on a nearby rock island. They were loud and had a distinct odor, but they were cool. The males made loud barking noises and we all imitated them.

Afterwards we went to a nearby fishing village and it was extremely eye opening. The people there did not have electricity or running water! It's hard to imagine life like that.
In the village they had three women who made necklaces and earrings with shells and sea stars from a nearby beach. Everything was handmade and beautiful.

After we handed out a few of the gift packs and quilts to the 10 - 20 people living on the island we said "adios" and left back to the ship. There Ester and Norma had made an amazing pancake breakfast.

After breaky we hopped in the pangas and left for Lobster Lagoon to snorkel. Melissa, Jessica and myself kayaked with Jim, Kristina and Sammy to the beach while everyone else rode the pangas. Once we got to the beach my partner (no names) got out and tipped our kayak and I fell in. No hard feelings, it was funny.

Everyone then snorkeled and we saw some lovely fish among other things. Then we relaxed on the beach and a few of the girls sunburned. Not me believe it or not.

When we arrived back at the boat we had fish, rice and veggies. Everyone said the fish was AMAZING! I really don't like fish so Lela thought it was hilarious that I was eating rice and cracker sandwiches... she said I shouldn't open up a restaurant.
I will let someone else carry on because my wrist hurts. Adios!
