Day 4 - part 2

continued from Day 4 - part 1

Once we arrived at our next destination the group took time to chillax,
swim and cool off. The temperature was in the high 90's (F), 30+ (C).

Throw in a few floating toys and...

No matter how old you are it brings out the kid in us.

Jim, also the resident lifeguard, throws an eye on the kayakers.

After our R&R we headed to shore to explore the goat ranching
community of Palmo Solo. One of the most isolated communities we visit.

Our first stop were the goat pens.

A quick tour of the homes...

and then the gift distribution. Please refer to Baja Gifts Program 2.

Here Asteria and Natalie are caught playfully sneaking each others gifts.

After our world-wind tour (because of the heat of the day)
we headed to the fossil beach known as Lela's Las Palma.

A limestone cliff loaded with fossils of a 10 million year old seabed.

Their were all sorts of treasures to find.

The white in the rocks are fossilized
shells, sand dollars, barnacles and more.

It was great to play in the shade of the cliff.

The girls are on a serious hunt for fossils.

Our junior naturalist, Kristina, finds the remains of a fishing bat.

An end to an amazing day!

Once we arrived at our new location we decided to go for a swim and play in the water to cool off. We ditched our sunglasses and hats. The three of us Rangers fought to all get on this inflated alligator until Jessica gave up and left. Jenna was fighting to get on the inflatable sea lion and before giving up she decided to jump on it from the back of the boat. It quickly became the fad of the hour! By the end people were doing tricks and all the leaders tried it. We even convinced Lela to try it! The only problem with the water was that it was extremely salty. Although it was a perfect temperature.

A few people got stung by jellyfish, which isn't really a big deal. Jessica flipped Moe and Colleen's kayak and got them all wet. When we were done swimming most of us took a shower and relaxed for a bit. We played charades for about 15 minutes before we left on our next adventure. Talk to you later.

So after we went swimming we visited another village. This village were goat herders and fishermen, I think. So we took some of the gift bags to the village and the little kids were adorable. One girl had the most amazing eyes.

Just to mention something random, one house had a fluorescent green broom propped up against a wall.

When we walked down another dry riverbed in the village we found their freshwater well. There were so many wasps flying around that it creeped me out. These things are huge! When we left to go to the fossil beach there was a wasp stalking us in the panga. Seriously, it was there the whole way from the village to the fossil beach.

The fossil spot was amazing. So many perfectly preserved shells. I found a little sand dollar and a lot of shells. It was really cool to see the shells embedded in the rocks.

For dinner we had chicken enchiladas with salad. I thought it was okay but that's just my opinion. For dessert we had Neopolitan ice cream. And now we are just chilling out on the boat and waiting to look at the fish that come out at night.
