Chase River Pathfinders

Day 4

Our morning started with a visit from a couple of new friends.

Locals from an isolated community on mainland Baja.

Maria and Rafaela join us for breakfast.

Guillermo and Eduardo join us for ice cream.

Once our guests left we headed to the shore.

Our first encounter...

A hermit crab.

Our junior naturalists, Kristina and Samantha, explore a marshy area.

Loaded with Fiddler crabs.

We head off down an arroyo exploring the fauna and flora.

To our surprise we found a cemetery that dates back to the late 1700's.

A pack of wild donkeys cross our path.

A Sagebrush lizard looks on.

After our hike we head back towards the beach.

To our surprise we encountered Rafaela and Maria
with the afghans and gifts they received from us earlier.
Please refer to Baja Gifts Program 2.

Waiting for the pangas to pick us up.

Jenna finds a Gulf Sunstar on the shoreline.

Our naturalists - Jim, Samantha and Kristina.

As we hoisted the anchor to head to the next
destination a pod of Common dolphins cross our path.

They swam alongside the boat.

Jumping and playing for a good 15 minutes.

continued on Day 4 - part 2

Today we got up around 7:30 am. We had breakfast and then four children from a nearby village came to visit. We gave them some gifts and the looks on their faces were beautiful. After they left we headed to shore for a nature hike around the area of their village. When we got there we took pictures of a hermit crab that pinched my finger. The hike was fun because we saw WILD DONKEYS! (Yes, that's right we saw the Panterra naturalists... actually the writer added this note, couldn't resist.) We got a couple pictures of the donkeys and then moved on.

There was this really cool, creepy graveyard that was really old. We stopped a couple of times to drink some water. Then we saw the two little girls (who visited us on the boat) and their family. They lived out in the middle of nowhere. When we started back to the boat after our hike one of the little girls came to see us off.

We saw dolphins after we got back from the island. It was amazing! The babies were so cute! They were jumping out of the water and you could see the fish on them.  It was very cool. I hope we see more!

We saw the dolphins while we were moving to our new location. We had a lunch of Chicken stirfry which was really good, even though the sauce was really sweet! A little later we went swimming off the back of the boat.
