Chase River Pathfinders

Day 5

Our day started with a visit from a few Bottlenose dolphins.

They swam by for a quick hello!

The morning plans were to explore the fauna and flora of the desert islands.

Hiking through the brush to a salt bed.

Discussing the adaptations of cactus to a harsh environment.

A lizard scurries by.

Then off to the tide pools.

First encounter a rock crab.

A female with eggs.

The next catch - Sally Lightfoot crab.

As feisty as beautiful.

Cooling off as the group awaits the panga for pick up.

The next adventure takes us to the
California Sea Lion habitat at Los Isolotes.

A typical male posture.

The females, on the other hand, are simply chillaxin".

High atop the habitat a flock of Magnificent Frigates hang in the shade.

A couple of Blue-footed Boobies look on.

Brown pelicans also watch as we tour their habitat.

Then the most exciting of all.
Snorkeling with the sea lions.

At first the group was a little apprehensive.
But it didn't last long at all.

A Barber fish picks at the algae on the rocks.

The group is having a great time.

A Giant Damsel fish.

Male sea lion swims by... head first.

A Bullseye stingray glides along the bottom.

Butt shot of the male sea lion. This ends our adventure.

Last night Kapri and I were on the bow singing the "Omega Kawair (?) Cloud Song". and 2 dolphins came and swam underneath us.  It was awesome! They were jumping out of the water. There was also a bunch of fish swimming and splashing around.

Today was absolutely awesome. We woke up around 7:30 - 8:00 am had breakfast (eggs) then we went to this beach and we saw 3 different cacti.

Then Melissa, Jenna and I caught a lizard. We went back to the boat for lunch (beef tacos) very good!

Then we had some time to work on our Expedition Notebooks. Then we had free time. After we headed out to see the see lions and then returned to the boat, got into our snorkel and got to swim with the sea lions. Very cool, I loved it!

Then Lela opened the gift shop, bought some stuff, very cool.
