Daily JournalSummer Cruise for Teachers
|
![]() The day started with a few of us taking in the sunrise. Amanda watches the sunrise from the bow of the boat. ![]() The first adventure of the day was to hike and explore an arroyo (dry riverbed). ![]() We land on the beach and the group discovers fossils. ![]() As we head into the arroyo everything seems quiet. |
![]() Stephanie stops to take a picture of a bird's nest.
It may have been a hummingbird's nest as we saw a few flying around. |
![]() As we continue hiking down the arroyo we hear goats in the hills. ![]() They were scattered high up in the mountain. |
![]() Checking out the geology. We were finding small chunks of crystal strands. ![]() Jim finds a Speckled rattlesnake tucked under a rock.
|
![]() Not sure what this is but the closest picture, for identification, that I could find would suggest it is a Sagebrush lizard. ![]() We locate the vein of crystal strands. |
A closer look. The deposit is a silty gypsum and mud mixture. ![]() The guys find a fire ant nest. |
![]() This is part of the Leopard lizard family. ![]() Charlotte poses for a picture in the carved limestone formation. ![]() We head back to the beach. |
![]() A quick pose from Steve. ![]() We arrived back at the boat and decide to take a quick dip. However, a small pod of Bottlenose Dolphins are cruising in the area so a few of us decided to head out in the panga for a closer look.
|
![]() They take notice and turn towards us. ![]() They effortlessly cruise to the bow of the panga. ![]() They swim in front and alongside. ![]() Breaking surface once in a while to catch a breath of air. ![]() One dolphin decides to leap into the air not just once but two or three times. ![]() Then they grouped and disappeared. It was amazing! |
