Day 4 - part 2

Our friends from the fishing
village sent us back with a dozen fresh fish.

To include a bag of Trigger fish fillets.

Norma, the ships cook, prepares the fish for fish tacos.
One of her specialties.

Battered, then into hot oil to quick fry.

Now we are ready for the tacos.

Meanwhile, some of the gang jump from the top of the boat.

This is David, who took the first plunge.

Kristina was next.
Once in they took on the responsibilty of being spotters.

Next up, Paddy!

Mr. Braden

Stasia, in fine form.

We left the anchorage and headed out
across the channel enroute to the Sea Lion
habitat. So today Samantha has taken on
the responsibility of being the whale spotter.

Liam and Liz relax on the top deck.

No sooner was Sammy on duty, she spots a whale.

The Blues are still feeding in the area.

The fish finder detects a thick ball of krill.

Just what the blue whales like to feed on!

We arrive at the California Sea Lion habitat.
Pelicans soaring high above.

The main colony of the breeding grounds.

We get into the pangas for a naturalists tour.
Once again Bonnie is sneaking up on something.
Hey, where's your mom?

A male chillax's with his harem of females.

A smaller sub colony of males and females.

A female and her pup.
The pup watched us the whole time.

A Brown Booby bird sits on the ledge. Obviously a favorite spot.

The sea lions are happy, healthy and simply hanging.

A Sally Lghtfoot crab scavenges along the barnacles.

We end the day of adventures
watching a Blue Footed Booby take a dump.

The people of the fishing village ended up giving us a whole bunch of fish which the boys cleaned and the girls cooked us for lunch and dinner that day. Yum! Nothing can ever compare to eating fish that is so fresh it was never put in a refrigerator.

While lunch was being prepared, we had a chance to take a refreshing dip in the sea. We jumped from all decks of the boat and played with our friends the Orca and the sea lion.

After playing for a while we hoisted anchor and traveled across the channel to the Sea Lion habitat. En route, we ate fresh fish tacos. I had to mention it because they were soooooo delicious. About halfway across we encountered the blue whales again, feeding on a large amount of krill in the area.

At last we arrived at the Sea Lion habitat and almost immediately we were ready to jump in the pangas and have a look around. In sea lion fashion they greeted us with barks, grunts, snorts and sneezes. It was so exciting to watch the dynamics between the dominant males and the rest of their harem. We found some of the females and young males perched high upon the rocks and wondered how they got up so high. The usual gang of birds were there, the brown booby, the blue-footed booby, frigate birds, vultures and gulls. But by far the most exciting things to see were the sea lions posing for the cameras or lying lazily on the rocks.

After we finished our time at the sea lion colony, it was time to head to our evening destination for some cold beverages and to watch the sun set one more time on our last night at sea.
