continued
from Day 3 - part 1![]() After leaving Los Burros we headed to Las Animas. An island off in the distance, isolated and lashed by the open waters, only accessible on a calm day. |
![]() Barking up a storm. ![]() Another sea lion chillaxin' on the rocks. ![]() High atop the island you can find nesting Pelicans. |
![]() This Blue Heron looks like it's feet melted to the rocks. Honestly, the temp. is about 100 degrees F/35 degrees C. ![]() Brown Booby birds. ![]() Departing Las Animas we cruised to Fossil Beach. Once anchored, we headed out in the panga to explore the fossiliferous sandstone. |
![]() We enter a small cave to explore. ![]() High above on the ceiling of the cave you can see a layer of fossils. Remnants of an old sea bed. ![]() We meander along the shoreline to a little bay we will be exploring. |
![]() Fossil Beach. ![]() Unfortunately the Pelicans sleep here and everything gets pooped on, literally burning it away with the high acidity of the poop. ![]() The fossil remains of a turtle. |
![]() The sandstone formations are beautifully carved by the natural erosion. ![]() A quick group picture. Missing Bev, Irv and Dave. |
![]() "Sea treasure" remains of a Goat's leg, Porcupine fish, starfish, sea fan coral, Purple Gorgonian coral, seaweed, sponges and more. ![]() We meandered our way along an arroyo (dry riverbed) in search of adventure. ![]() Fossils in the iron rich sandstone. |
![]() Kenton finds the bones of something we could not identify. My best guess was a sternum of a mammal but the jointed pieces have me stumped. ![]() Marcie and Kenton pose for a quick pic. |
![]() Donna looks for fossilized shark teeth. |
![]() A great way to end the day. YAY!!!!! ![]() Oh yes, and for supper baked Pargo. The gift from the fishing village the day before. |
