Aurora Charter School

Day 3 - part 2

The afternoon adventure brought us to the goat herding
community of Palma Solo. A perfect place for the Baja Gifts
Program. Please see the Baja Gifts Program page of this journal.

We were greeted by the school teacher, Albert. This is the
first time Palma Solo had one. He had only been there for 2 months.

He wanted to share his schoolhouse with us.
So we trekked through the community past a couple of homes.

There was a small herd of goats hanging around the house.

Finally we got to the schoolhouse.

Albert invited us in.

It was a one room school house with nine students.
(Katie you owe me big time!!!!)

They were learning about the ecosystem
of their backyard. And what a cool backyard it is.

After the schoolhouse we went to visit with a few of the
community members before making our way back to the boat.

The community had cattle...

donkeys (and 1 horse we saw).

It was a pretty neat experience.

While we waited for the pangas to pick us up we
saw a few hundred pelicans feeding on a very large
school of small fish. Probably sardines or grunts.

As we made our way back towards our evening
destination we saw a pod of something coming towards us.

They were dolphins!

Long Beaked Common Dolphins to be exact.

They jumped and splashed. Hundreds of them.

What a spectacular way to end the day.

continued from Day 3 - part 1

During the donation giving we had a chance to get to know many of the kids. Seeing how there life was made us appreciate what we have, that includes their schools, and homes, but the one thing that keeps them together is their love for each other and thankfulness of what they have. Jessal had a chance to talk with a kid and spoke to him in Spanish in a lively conversation.

Watching the dolphins swim and jump was like a dream come true for many. We saw thousands of dolphins swim right beside the boat, and took many photos and videos of the dolphins.

Star Gazing was very interesting as we saw many stars and constellations. We also saw an asterism and a planet (Saturn). The weather was calm and cool with no clouds making this a perfect day for stargazing. It was so beautiful and breath taking, we saw Orions belt, Orion the hunter, Ursa major, Ursa minor, Sirius, the Big Dipper and little Dipper.
