The Gifts

Pens and pencils.

School supplies, binders, glue, notebooks and more.

Frisbees and stuffed animals.

Toys and one pair of running shoes.

Toothbrushes, toothpaste and hair bands.

More toothbrushes and toothpaste
plus deodorant, bandaids and hair combs.

The group spent over an hour making up 28 gift bags.

The gift bags were made of for two groups,
little kid gift bags and big kid gift bags.

Candies and Canadian pins.

Finally the gift bags are done.
Now we just need to distribute them.

San Evaristo

On the shores of San Evaristo.

Our first group ran from the other side of the bay when they saw us.

Sheila hands out a big kid gift
bag to young girl Sheila's age.

Graeham's recipient seems a little shy but she's appreciative of the gift.

This young kid hugs his stuffed animal right off the bat.

One is elated and the other two are still trying to figure it out.

Family and student group picture.

The coastal fishing community of San Evaristo is a 4 hour 4 wheel drive through the mountains of the Sierra Gigantes. By panga (boat) it is equal if not more time depending on sea conditions. Over the years I have noticed the number of children decrease as they are all leaving for La Paz to pursue education and other aspirations. Recently, the school in San Evaristo was closed due to the decrease in students.
Those children still in San Evaristo do not have any formal teacher or schooling. So the parents (moms) are left to do their best. It was done in the past and will continue into the future and the gifts that have been given to both the "little kids" and the "big kids" are gifts that will enhance their children's lives. The gifts of school supplies and books are nothing short of a treasure, contributing to their continued growth in education.
