Journey of Giving - Medical Expedition

Day 1 - Part 1

The Community of Portuguese - Medical/Dental

I woke this morning to the rising sun. It was beautiful.
Reflective of our day to come.

Our early morning was spent busily preparing for our first community visit.

Edna, the dentist and Michelle gather all of their
medicines and supplies for the dental part of the healthcare.

Imelda working on the medical side of things.

Melissa and everyone's "cousin" Lucas put together the
first aid kits that we would be leaving with each community.

Kraeg assembles the First Aid Boxes.

Distributing the alcohol between the medical and dental teams.

Next, Jan and Melissa organize the disinfectant.

The doctors label the products.

Meanwhile on shore, the Caravanas trucks were on their way to Portuguese.

They arrive at the community of Portuguese.

The medical team heads to shore.

On this particular day landing the panga on shore was no problem.

The Caravanas personnel organize their trucks for the days work.

The Trucks are set up and the people start arriving.

A quick consultation and the patient is ready for treatment.

Into the medical side of the Caravanas truck for treatment.

Dr. Alvarado sets up for an ultrasound.

Nervously (I think) the medical team set out to start the beginning of 3 days of healthcare. We weren't sure if there would be a language barrier. Not sure how the Mexican people would respond just nervously jump in and started administering the healthcare.

It was brilliant. Each community member greeted us with smiles and thank you's. Their faces lit up in gratitude for what we were doing. Words could not describe the initial feelings. It was the heartfelt smiles that described it all.

We were charged and ready to go. This is going to be a blast. Bring it on!!
