Day 5

The morning adventure started with
a hike up an arroyo that wound through the hills.

Landing on the beach we headed out.

We meandered our way up the arroyo.

A quick pose behind an Elephant Trunk tree.

A western skink lizard hides in the brush.

It was beautiful as we made our way through the arroyo.

At the end of the trail.

After the hike we cooled off by jumping off the boat.

Back to the boat and we were off again.

As we headed up the channel we
encountered a small pod of Bottlenose dolphins.

They swam under the boat.

Surfacing to catch a breath of air.

On our way to the tiny lone island of
Las Animas we saw a few manta rays swim under the boat.

Once at the island we anchored the boat
and headed out in the panga to explore and fish.

A couple of locals were out hand line fishing.

Pelicans, Cormorants and gulls.

Magnificent Frigate birds.

Female California sea lion sunning on the rocks.

A male California sea lion is not to
happy as a bird just pooped on his forehead.

Troy caught and released a small barracuda.

As we headed back we encountered a blue whale.

We hung out with it for a few minutes and
then continued our journey back down the channel.

Sunsetting on a fantastic day exploring the land and sea.

In the morning we ate a lovely breakfast of scrambled eggs, tortillas and refried beans. Soon after breakfast we went exploring the island of San Jose. Much to our liking we found a dried up riverbed in which we hiked deep into the island. The riverbed we found out as we hiked, twisted and turned like a rattlesnake. Fortunately we did not find any rattlesnakes on our little venture.

After the hike we set sail at about 9:30 for Los Animas. On our journey to the island we saw a couple of whales and a pod of bottle nosed dolphins. When we arrived at Los Animas we found out much to our delight that we would be going fishing around the island. While we were there we saw a couple of fishermen chumming. We also saw a couple of sea lions and a lot of birds. Troy was the only one to catch a fish but it was a barracuda so we couldn’t eat it. After fishing we ate a lovely lunch.

After lunch we set out back to where we came from, all the while watching for whales. Low and behold we saw three more whales. That evening after supper we chillaxed, and finished another day on the sea of Cortez playing cards.
