Day 2

We started the day with a visit to Lela's Beach.

We donned our snorkel gear and
headed out to explore and discover.

A Bradley's seastar.

A Coronet Reef Fish lurks below.

A Flower Petal Urchin camouflages
itself with shells, rocks and coral.

Some in the group chillaxed on the beach while...

... others headed out to explore the surrounding arera.

A large Chuckwalla lizard looks on.

We tried to catch him but he was way to fast.

We arrived at the California sea lion
breeding grounds known as "Los Isolotes".

It was a relaxing day for the sea lions.
Not much happening, simply taking it all in.

A female poses as we pass by.

Another female swims by.

A couple of males jostle in the rocks.

Higher up in the rocks the
Blue-footed Boobies are in their courting mode.

Soaring above us in the sky is a magnificent Frigate.

As we head to our evening destination
we encounter a pod of Common dolphins.

They splashed all around us.

Jumping and playing along side the boat.

A little later on we encountered a Finback whale.

Surprisingly it did not mind us approaching it.

It even crossed the bow of the boat.

Once anchored at our evening
destination we tried our hand at fishing.

A few nibbles but mostly the fish ate the bait right off the hook.

Unfortunately the only action was a Pelican pooping on us. Nuts!!!!

After dinner and before the nightlight,
we worked on the Panterra Workbooks.

Day 2: Alisa and Altera

Breakfast was at 8:00 and we had a delicious meal. After breakfast we went snorkeling at Lela’s Beach. It was the first time snorkeling for a lot of people, and it was interesting to watch.

There, we started moving towards the next destination while eating lunch. Our next destination was Los Isolotes. There we went in the Pangas and cruised around the small Sea Lion habitat. We saw lots of Sea Lions hanging out and sleeping, and swimming. We also saw lots of Boobies both Brown and Blue. We went back to the boat and moved onto our next destination. While traveling we came across a large pod of dolphins. So we sat on the bow and watched them playing around the boat. After the dolphins we surprisingly saw a whale.

In the evening we were given a choice to go either fishing or hiking. The majority of the students chose fishing. So we went out in the Pangas and tried to fish using the traditional Mexican method. After fishing for a while the only exciting things that happened were Aaron Co getting pooed on, and a fish running away with our sardines.

When it got dark we went out and looked at the water with the nightlight. Under the light we saw a whole bunch of things, including barracudas, flying fish and a lone pelican. After a long day filled with many adventures we decided to retire in our staterooms. :)
