Spirit River Regional Academy

Baja Gifts Program

Spirit River is a small town in northern Alberta. Friends who live there refer to it as "the ice cube" because it's that cold. I have had the pleasure of dealing with this school for over 10 years. I have had repeat students on the trips, younger brothers and sisters over the years and each and every one of them have something in common. HUGE HEARTS!!

This year each student came down with a shoebox or more full of toys, toiletries and school supplies. After sorting and organizing the various gifts we ended up with 33 gift packs. They were distributed among 4 communities.

As you can see there was a lot to sort through.

Sorted into school supplies, toiletries and toys.

Then organized into 33 gift packs ranging from ages 2 - 17.

We removed the whoopie cushions brought by Stasia the warped naturalist.

Kasey brought down a beautiful little wrap around tiger
that had to be pried away from Michele the teacher supervisor.

The gift packs.

The first stop was a community made up of 5 families.

We loaded up the pangas and headed out.

Kasey with tiger in hand.

Once on land they invited us to their homes.

"Come on kid make me look good, I'm on film here...sheesh!"

Kasey and Becky hand out a gift pack to this 17 year old.

Lower down on the coast is one home with one child.

We managed to give everyone in the area a gift pack.
Thanks Britney!

Still lower down we came across old friends from
another community that were visiting their grandma.

The cutest of the gift giving was a young girl who watched from afar

and wouldn't come near us. Kasey knew this would be the recipient

of the tiger (once it was pried away from Michele). The little girl ran

into her grandma's house and hid. So we left tiger at the foot of the door.
