Day 1 - So we thought. The excitement grew as the day finally arrived. We boarded
the bus to Grande Prairie, with plenty of time before our first flight to
Edmonton took off. After a seemingly easy security check, it was announced
that our plane was having a fuel problem and would be delayed. After
almost two hours, we finally boarded and took off to Edmonton. Arriving in
Edmonton, we took a shuttle bus to our hotel and got settled in, but not
permanently, as we had to get up at three to catch our flight to Seattle.
Even though it was very early, we were energetic as we entered the
airport. The longest Friday the Thirteenth Ever! Superstitious yet? After attempt one was an epic failure, we were overjoyed
to finally reach Cabo San Lucas International Airport the following
Tuesday. Something must have not wanted us to fly the first time, as these
flights went perfectly. After finding our luggage, going through a rather
kind staff of security, we made our way to our “Panterra Sign”, where
we met Carlos 2. We say Carlos 2 because our driver was also Carlos, so he
was Carlos 1. Carlos 2 could speak pretty good English, and after
splitting into two buses, we began our bus ride to La Paz. Our bus had
Carlos 1 driving and Carlos 2 in the passenger seat. We stopped at a small
store to buy snacks, like cheesies and donuts. We marveled at the
landscape, everything was so beautiful and the weather was so warm. Being
from fairly small towns, we laughed at the “skinny cow crossing” signs
that were everywhere, as we have moose, deer, ducks, but never cows. We
were especially amused when we saw a few very skinny cows making their way
across the road. Although we wanted to stay awake, after 2 days without
sleep from the traveling, our eyes became very heavy and we fell asleep.
After about two hours of traveling, we finally made it to our destination.
Lela and Stasia greeted us warmly, and we unloaded and began to walk down
the docks to our boat: The Narval! The boat was beautiful, but the girls
had one small problem; Our tiny tiny rooms. Being teenage girls we packed
a lot, and we soon saw that the downstairs bedrooms may not be big enough
to fit all our stuff how we would like. We realized we would be sleeping
with suitcases and piling our stuff EVERYWHERE! Exhausted, we sat down for
a wonderful meal; bean soup and beef tacos. True Mexican food, and it was
delicious. Although the boat was amazing and the experience had started,
we were too tired to even think and had to hit the hay. Laughing as we
stepped over our stuff, and shoved suitcases to the end of the bed, we
laid down for a very well needed goodnight sleep; Very excited to see what
was going to happen next. |
