Day 2

Today we left the marina at 7a.m. to arrive at our first destination, called Lela’s Beach. On the way to the beach, off in the distance there were a pod of dolphins swimming in our direction. As they passed us everyone was piled on the bow of the ship to take pictures. We were told that for every dolphin that jumped in the air, there would be three underneath it, but most of these dolphins were little punks. When we arrived at the beach, the lovely cooking crew had prepared our meal, consisting of Mexican scrambled eggs, refried beans, and tortillas. If nobody wanted this selection then there was an alternate path which, was cold cereal, fruit, and yogurt.

After breakfast we headed over to a rusty looking fishing boat in the same area as we were. The crew revved the pangas and we were off. When we reached the boat, the smell was a little overwhelming, but you get use to it. There were nets both hanging, and in the water as we approached. Once on the ship, the fishermen showed us around there vessel, and even the storage hatch where they would keep the fish, in order to sell at the harbor. We kindly asked if we could buy some shrimp for supper, they agree that we could, and they weighted it. The shrimp cost fifty dollars American for six kilograms.

When we arrived back to the boat, lunch was ready, waiting for our hungry tummies. We were served macaroni soup with tacos. Shortly after eating we gathered our beach apparel/gear together and headed towards the sandy sun stricken land. While on land we encountered many different species (sand worms, lizards, and olive shelled snails), and many plants, such as cacti. Only walking halfway across the island everyone was tired so we stopped. During our stop, I (Corey) could not stay still, making a very bad sand castle and a sand angel.

When we returned, we traveled to a bay for the night. During that night we munched on battered shrimp and rice with a side of salad (more like a side of ranch for some of us {Corey again}). After eating, the evening seemed to fly by with fishing, card games, and just hanging out. Mr. Martin was able to hold a porcupine fish that was accidently caught by the guys fishing. We all went to bed early because we were tired, jet legged, and had a big day ahead of us. You need to come on this trip, it has been a lot of fun.
