Day 5

We woke to a beautiful sunrise.

The entire morning was spent distributing the gifts we brought from home.
For the full story see Baja Gifts Programs at the bottom of the page.

Kasey brought a wrap around tiger that one lucky kid would receive.

Kids from the different communities came to greet us.

Even the turkey vultures tried to get a gift bag or two.

Check out the Baja Gifts Program page for the story on tiger.

An afternoon snorkel.

In the shallow waters along the beach.

There was lots to see and feel ... including jellyfish.

Never walk forward with your flippers on.
You end up looking like an awkward duck.

Some of the group simply chillaxed on the beach.

Building sandcastles.

The evening sunset.

Recording and researching marine life encounters. The workbook.

Learning about the natural history of the marine environment.

Day 5

We woke up today to find that we were moving. We were already on the lookout for whales. It was unfortunate that we saw none, but it all seemed better when we stopped for breakfast. The amazing cooks made a very delicious meal consisting of pancakes, chicken bacon, and sausages.

After we ate, we organized the shoe boxes we brought for the children. It was so awesome to see the smiles on their faces when they opened the bags and boxes. On one of the islands we were given a gift. It was this beautiful hand-made placemat sort with fishes on it. We also bought a nice (also hand-made) tablecloth and raffled it off in the boat (where it went to Bailey).

Lunch was also very delicious. The cooks made enchiladas, and everyone loved them. A single whale interrupted our lunch, and we just missed seeing it. After lunch we suited up and went to the beach. Some stayed ashore to sunbathe, and some went snorkeling. The scene underwater was gorgeous. There were quite a few jellyfish though, and a few of the snorkelers (Becky, Kristy, Lindsay, Brittany and Kasey) got stung.

The people that stayed on the beach had a sandcastle building contest, and both the entries were pretty good. We stayed for a few more minutes after the last of the snorkelers got out of the water then hopped back in the pangas and came back to the boat.

We passed the time for supper away again playing various games, and just hanging out. Supper smelled so delicious when we were waiting, and it was so good. Mr. Martin even took one for a midnight snack! When we were all done eating we sat down to do some of our workbooks. We got quite a bit done. The night ended with a few more rounds of chess and cards, while some of us went to bed, licking our war wounds as we fell asleep.
