Day 5

Shortly after breakfast you could feel the whales calling.
We spotted a lot of splashing just in front of the bay we were
anchored in. So we hoisted the anchor and followed the call.

It was a mother humpback whale and her baby.

They surfaced, exhaled...

... then inhaled in the speed of what sounded like one breath.

The baby (actually a several year old calf) hunched its tail stock...

... then fluked (showed the tail) and dove. We watched the mother
and calf for some time  then the baby took over and the show began.

It spyhopped (bringing the head and upper body out of the water) ...

then back into the water leaving behind a tremendous splash.

The calf breached (threw it's body out of the water).
We watched the it play for about 30 minutes.

Then the mother stuck her tail out of the water,
oddly enough did not slap her tail, and then they
were gone. I guess she was saying goodbye!

We returned to the anchorage and started our day
playing at Lela's Beach. The guys headed out in the kayaks.

The two Siva's in one kayak, and Jeff and DJ in another.

The Bay and Lela's Beach are breathtakingly beautiful.
One of the most beautiful places in the Sea of Cortez.

Melven decided to go swimming.

There was so much to see in the world beneath us.
A Crown of Thorns Seastar feeding on the coral.

Rainbow Wrasse.

Flower Petal Sea Urchin.

Graybar grunt.
The bay was alive with marine life.

After our kayak and snorkel we returned to the ship for a fresh
baked tuna lunch accompanied by rice and salad. It was delicious!

Cliff Jumping

Stasia and the two Sivas.

Jeff is first to leap off the cliff ...

... into the water.

Next up, big Siva.

Look at the shadow in the picture, pretty cool.

Little Siva contemplated his fate before ..

... taking the plunge.
It was truly a leap of faith for him.
