Day 1 and 2

Day 1

The group arrived safe and sound.

Finally they had arrived to their home for the next 8 days.

A welcome talk and brief introduction of life onboard a ship.

We headed out to sea soon after boarding.

Day 2

We started off our adventure to explore a new area.

We were in search of a cave.

We found the entrance and headed in.

It was big enough to fit both the pangas.

A Sally Lightfoot crab looks on.

Our next stop was the California sea
lion breeding grounds known as Los Isolotes.

We hopped into the pangas to tour
around the volcanic outcrop the sea lions call home.

A group of females and their nursing pups.

An inquisitive sea lion pops it's head
out of the water for a closer look at us.

A Blue-footed Booby bird

A Brown Booby bird defends it's ground.

Arriving on the beach for an afternoon snorkel.

Once in the water the world beneath the sea came alive.

A male Sargent Major fish protects it's nest of eggs (purple areas in the picture).

A Reef Cornetfish camouflages itself as it passes below us.

Crown of Thorn Seastar feeding on the coral.

On our way to our evening destination a pod
of Bottlenosed dolphins approaches the ship.

The dolphins swam alongside the bow.

Some were jumping in the distance.

As we were approaching our destination we
encountered two very playful humpback whales.
This one was breaching!

They were coming closer to us.

They splashed and played for what seemed like forever.

Right off the bow.

What an amazing day of adventures!

Day 1

Today as we young travelers awoke to the stir of excitement as thoughts of the trip raced through our minds. Today was finally the day that we would leave on our adventure into paradise. However the journey to get there was less then perfect.

We arrived at the Edmonton international airport and waited to be given our boarding passes to our stop in Calgary, which would then leave to Los Cabos. The lines were long and the anticipation building. We waited for about an hour before we left Edmonton. Some of us got timmy’s (which was nummy).

As we boarded our plane we were less then quite. The plane ride was short and soon we were in Calgary, were anticipation build up. We had an hour and a half to wait, which embellished how tired we were. So we walked around and got some food until we had to get on the plane.

During the flight to Los Cabos some of us slept, while others watched tv (Simpsons, national geographic). That is until we flew over the grand canyon were almost all the travelers got up and left to go take a look outside to see. Then finally after a four hour flight we reached Los Cabos and went through security.

Our bus awaited us as we all rushed to claim our seats. It was a three-hour ride through the hills and narrow paths. As most of everyone slept Guillaume and Alex sang to their hearts content.

Then Lela and Stasia greeted us, as we boarded the Narval we were greeted with a nice dinner of enchiladas and a peaceful sleep as we left the harbor.

Day 2
We started off day 2 bright and early with scrambled egg tortillas, then left Pichilingue at 8:30 am. Shortly after, we hopped on the pangas and explored caves on the east side of Espiritu Santos. We encountered many crabs and fish. One of the naturalists leaped out of the boat and started to splunk the cave. We were taught of the many different geological time lines of the mountainous hills.

We then took the pangas over to the sea lion habitat, Los Isolotes. We observed countless sea lions, some sun bathing on the rocks and some coming to visit us in the water. There were also lots of seagulls, turkey vultures, Brown pelicans, Brown boobies, blue-footed boobies and the magnificent frigatebird.

We had our first snorkeling adventure at Lela’s beach and came across lots of colourful fish, and some jelly fish too ! At 4 :30 PM, we started crossing San Fransisco channel when we came across 80- 100 pacific bottle nose dolphins ! They came right up to our boat and swam along with us for a while.

Just when we thought it couldn’t get better, we spotted two humpback whales who put on a spectacular show for us! They played for what seemed that hours. They were happy little whales!

We were then bombarded with a delicious meal before we even had time to digest what we just saw. No pun intended. After we anchored at Lobster Lagoon, we watched the beautiful sun set and spent the rest of the night beneath the stars.
