Day 7 and 8

Day 7

Before breakfast we decided to go on a 7:00 am adventure hike.
We landed on the doorstep of a fishing casita belonging to a few local fishermen.

We passed by quietly with little or no disturbance.

It appeared the fishermen were around but must have
been out setting or retrieving their nets when we arrived.

We made our way up the hill to the top of Whale Lookout.

It was cool exploring around. But there was a creepy feeling in the air.

A view of the mangrove from the lookout.

Then it happened. We came upon this 2 foot long worm
and it scared us. We high-tailed it out of there.

We slipped and tripped our way down screaming the whole way...

Thank goodness we made it, the worm was chasing us...
Alright so I lied. The worm was only two inches long and
we decided to take another route back to the casita.
Sheesh!

After breakfast we headed to the beach for the last time. On
the way we were temporarily distracted by a humpback whale.
It had come to say goodbye!

A few of the students decided to kayak in.

Day 8

Saying goodbye to the crew!

Kari presents the Captain with a gift of our appreciation.

I translated the groups thanks and words of appreciation to the crew.

Big, big hugs goodbye!

The last of the group pictures.
This ends our trip onboard the MV Narval.
We now head to Cabo to catch our flight home.

Day 7
We started off the last day at sea of our fabulous week in Mexico with a hike at Whale Lookout. We observed many different cactus types and even saw some pretty big lizards and a black desert hare scampering through the bush! We finished off that adventure with a bit of beach combing and lots of picture taking. Us hungry hikers returned to the Narval and were greeted with the breakfast of champions. We indulged in ham, egg and bean burritos then hurried off to our rooms to get ready for the rest of the day.

As we boarded the pangas on the way to Treasure Beach, a humpback whale graced us with its presence. On a whim, we decided to follow it out to sea! After a couple good glimpses of the fluking, we turned back and made our way to the beach for some fun in the sun. 2 hours later, we returned to the ship satisfied with our time sunbathing, exploring and snorkeling. Some students decided to use this time to kayak around and observe the sea life through the clear ocean water.

Paloma and Mily had a gorgeous comida (lunch) waiting for us, which we all devoured wholeheartedly! After that, we all gathered our things together for an afternoon of shopping in La Paz. Stasia took us around to a few street vendors where we bartered our way to boatloads of souvenirs. Our “pick-me-up” of the day came in the form of ice cream from a local parlor. The last stop was a bazaar where we picked up some interesting shirts, games, and other goodies. We made our way back to the Narval, only to depart shortly after for a group dinner in the city.

We ate a great meal and enjoyed seeing all the bright lights of the La Paz tourist attractions. A long night of packing awaited us back at the boat. We are all quite excited to be going back home, but really don’t want to leave the beautiful people and places of BCS! Although we leave with many fond memories, we’ll definitely miss it all!
