Day 1 The ship is ready and we patiently await our guests arrival. The sunset is spectacular! Finally the group arrives. |
They're tired ... ... but excited. Let's meet the gang(sta's) From left to right: Cochrane High - Ian, Russel, Duncan, Ms. Bennett (teacher) and from Matthew Halton High - Rhonda (Veronica's mom). Footnote: I think they had to bring Rhonda along for reasons that you'll find out soon enough. |
From left to right: Halton - Naomi, Veronica (the gangsta - remember Rhonda the mom footnote), Jarret, Lauren and Claire. From left to right: Graham (been in any bathrooms lately) and Lane. |
From left to right: Geordi, Dan (Lane's dad), Karen (Halton teacher), Sharon (Panterra) and Dr. Shelley Breadner (guest). |
Day 2 - Let the adventure begin! We headed out to Lela's beach. Arriving on the shores we were excited to hit the water snorkeling. Setting up on the beach. |
| Geared up and good to go! A Graybar Grunt. A Flower Petal Sea Urchin camouflaged by placing shells around the test. |
| A Russel fish... sorry I mean a student enjoying his snorkel. Three-banded Butterfly Fish. |
| A Tan Seatar. A Coral Hawkfish. |
| Ms. Bennett and Russel explore the marsh pond. Stasia and the gang traipse through the desert brush. Others scout around the hills in search of lizards. It was great first day exploring the sea and desert islands! |

Day 1 Travel Day: Observing an obviously bored student racing a wheel chair
down the deserted walkway of Calgary International Airport was our first
introduction to our shipmates from Pincher Creek’s Matthew Halton High
School. Looks like we're all going to get along just fine. The flight was
very long but we were exited so we barely noticed. Upon arrival in Cabo
San Lucas we boarded a bus to transfer to La Paz. The route took us
through the magnificent landscape and views of the Pacific coast of the
Baja Peninsula, and to a produce farm where we sampled delicious
strawberries. Upon arrival we immediately boarded the vessel and were
greeted by an enthusiastic crew and a fantastic home-style Mexican dinner.
Following the dinner we departed for an anchorage further along the bay,
with the crew working tirelessly while we slept. After a nice relaxing sleep-in we woke up to have a great
Mexican breakfast waiting for us. After breakfast we headed back out to
sea. Two hours later we had arrived at Lela’s Beach where we spent the
day snorkeling, hiking, and enjoying the sunshine. We saw a variety of
marine life including a Scorpion Fish, a Reef Cornet Fish, and large
schools of Sergeant Majors. We then returned to the boat to spend the
remainder of the evening soaking up the sun and enjoying another fantastic
dinner.
PS - a quick naturalist note - Shelley is a veterinarian
and good call on my part in inviting her. The kids were animals! ... just
kidding!! Sheesh!!!
