Day 6

Sharon and Shelley head out for a kayak while
the students were working on the Panterra Workbooks.

Once we finished the workbooks the
group headed to the beach for a hike.

Once onshore we geared up for a hike.

Ms. Bennet, Ian and Russel were no sooner up in the rocks exploring.

Dan offers a helping hand to Shelley.

A Whiptail lizard looks on.

The Gangsta was not smiling when she
removed her body from around the cactus.

We started our hike and encountered a couple of
wells. A decade ago the Mexican Military had set
up an outpost and the wells were dug and made to
supply freshwater to the men stationed at the outpost.

Pretty cool picture looking down the well into a reflection of yourself.
Stasia took this picture!

What a gorgeous view looking back!

Lauren, Veronica and Naomi pose in the natural sandstone carving.

Shelley and Karen (Ms. Larter) pose for yet another beautiful picture.

This is the coolest of the pictures!

A Chuckwala lizard tries to hide from sight
as we make our way back down to the beach.

The Amazing Race

The first activity was to build a sandcastle in
15 minutes. Team Barnacles build Mayan castles
in honor of the Mexican culture. Nice touch!

Team Sea Cucumbers build a turtle,
thinking it would impress the judge. Shelley!

And the winners  are the actual sand castle builders complete
with walk through tunnel and a balcony that doubled as a pool.
(I can't remember their team name - can someone email it to me please)

Next on the list of activities was a crab walk.
Notice the students had to wear shoes on their hands for safety reasons.

The crab walk was supposed to be followed by a team
kayak to the last rock outcrop but instead a stampede
pursued and the kayaks were long forgotten.

Next activity on the list a backward flipper run.

The last of the race activities was a set timed snorkel
in search of as many marine animals that could possibly be spotted.

The winners of the group photo part of the race.
Team Barnacles.

Ian and the girls enjoy a dinner of mashed
potatoes, salad and Chicken Cordon Blue.

We started our day off at a place called Cardinal, where we woke up and had breakfast. Then we sailed off to Candelero where we went for a nice hike in a canyon where a river used to be, but it was long dried up. The rocks were fascinating, as they were a deep orange tint with many holes, crevices and caves due to natural erosion. All of the rock surfaces were smooth, and none were jagged. They looked like prehistoric rocks. Soon after the hike, we came back to the M.V. Narval where we had lunch.

After lunch we went back to the same beach. While we were there we had an amazing race with multiple challenges, such as naming all the fish you see snorkeling within a set time. After the amazing race we had free time at the beach where students went beach combing, snorkeling and enjoyed the sun. When we were done at the beach we came back to the boat and sailed to San Gabriel where we anchored for the night.
