Daily JournalHilltop High SchoolDay 1 and Day 2 - part 1 |
| Day 1 The MV Narval was ready and waiting for the students to arrive. The group arrived around 6:00 pm tired and weary but excited. After settling into their staterooms, dinner was served. |
| After dinner the group headed out to the bow to enjoy the sites as we left the Bay of La Paz. We were escorted by a small pod of dolphins. |
| The sun was setting and the students were very excited, looking forward to the beginning of an amazing adventure. |
| Day 2 - part 1 We headed out taking in all the smells of the ocean, the stark colors of the geology, and the warmth of the sun. Does it get any better!
|
| The cave was very cool. There were colorful Sally Lightfoot crabs and fish you could see in the crystal clear water. A Pelican and Blue Heron look on. |
| After the caves we headed to a local fishing camp located in a beautiful shallow bay. We landed on the beach eager to explore. |
| The water was so warm and loaded with fish and crabs. Small fish and blue crabs were everywhere. |
| On the beach we caught a small sand crab that moved like lightening. It actually took us a while to catch it. |
| The fishing camp was simple. Built of plywood, beams and tarps. There was no running water or electricity. |
|
Day 1 We left Whitecourt around 3am to arriving in Edmonton at 530 am. We departed Edmonton arriving in Mexico at 3:00 pm. We eventually arrived at the ship in La Paz at around 6 pm. Stasia and lela greeted us at the marina and escorted us to the ship. After settling in to the staterooms we sat down to a wonderful supper of beef tacos. Our first real Mexican dinner. After dinner we went out on the bow and were escorted out of the Bay of La Paz by a small pod of dolphins. The sun was setting and it didn't take long for Venus and a few other stars to show up in the night sky. The dolphins and sunset were worth the long day of travel. The weather is warm and the water calling our names to jump in. Let the adventures begin.
Day 2 - part 1 We woke to breakfast at 8 am while sailing to another island. We stopped shortly after breakfast and got into the pangas to go and explore some caves, there were colourful fish and crabs. The cave was made of volcanic rock and took pictures of all of us in this exotic place. We continued our adventure in the pangas and our next stop was a fishing camp. Unfortunately, no one was there. We traunched along the sandy beach looking at crabs and fish skittering around in the shallow waters. The people on this island live a very simple life with no running water or electricity. On our return we were treated to chicken stir fry for lunch, then back out on the open sea to visit a colony of sea lions.
