Summer Cruise for Teachers

Baja Gifts Program - Photo Gallery

We all gathered to sort the various gifts brought for the Gift Program.
Leila (to include donations from various members of her community)
had brought a pink suitcase full of clothing, tarp and rope, household
items, toys and a Dremmel set for making jewelry (gifts varied from
cash that was used to buy items to used clothing.)

Heather and Mike brought maternity clothes, baby clothes and baby toys.

Sandy brought a box of school supplies.

Everything was placed on the tables and we set out to sort them.
The school supplies were sorted into gift bags for the kids.

Organized, packed and ready to visit the communities.

The first community visit was to Las Cuevas.

We were delivering rope and tarp to a family in
need of roof repairs before the rainy season hit.
(Notice the matching "rope" and tarp.)

The second community on the list was Ensenada de Cortez.

The community members gathered around
to accept the gifts we had brought for them.

Sandy distributes the school supplies to the kids.

Heather distributes the stuffed animals to some of the kids and...

the maternity and baby clothes to the expecting mom.

One of the community members asked me ,
in an earlier trip, for a foot pump for her sewing machine.

After handing out the gift bags of household stuff and distributing
the donated clothing, Leila gives Maria the Dremmel set so that
she may continue with her handcrafted jewelry making.

Finally the last gift is distributed.

The kids had the school supplies out
and were already drawing in their new notebooks.

The kids took to Leila and spent a few moments hanging out.

Maria gives Leila a set of "chicken" pot covers holders she stitched herself.

This ends the Baja Gifts Program portion of the trip.
