The Story of PANTERRA

In the late 1970s, I first visited La Paz and immediately fell in love with the land, sea, and culture of Baja California Sur. I could not have known then how profoundly that experience would shape my life and ultimately define my career.

A decade later, in the late 1980s, Panterra began with a simple but powerful idea: take high school students beyond the classroom and into the natural world through educational sailing expeditions in British Columbia’s Gulf Islands. Experiential learning became the foundation upon which Panterra would grow.

In 2004, Panterra transitioned to a non-profit organization, providing an opportunity to expand its work in La Paz and throughout the Sea of Cortez. Over the years, our programs evolved to encompass natural history, diving, scientific research, conservation, and cultural experiences for both students and adults.

Following COVID and a period of strategic reflection and restructuring, Panterra Eco Expeditions entered a new phase of growth. Building on decades of experience and our original educational vision, Panterra expanded beyond Baja California Sur to develop meaningful, educational travel experiences in two additional regions of Mexico.

Today, the journey continues. Our expeditions connect people with landscapes, wildlife, communities, and cultures—fostering curiosity, understanding, respect, and a deeper sense of stewardship.

After more than four decades, Panterra remains guided by a simple purpose: creating meaningful connections between people and place.
